All Greenplant’s new machinery complies with EU standard ‘Stage 5’ regulations. This is the latest stage of the protocols and aligns with the EPA's Tier 4' regulations in the United States. The rules surround engine emissions of non-road mobile machinery, such as excavators and dumpers.

What is Stage 5?

Stage 5 regulation sets stringent limits on particulate numbers produced by the diesel engines used in machinery. The engines are fitted with a diesel particulate filter (DPF), which traps highly dangerous carbon particulates from entering the atmosphere.

The DPF works similarly to a catalytic converter and diesel cars and vans are also fitted with DPFs. The system helps keep machinery under the new strict particulate number limits, creating more environmentally friendly machinery.

Does it Affect Engine Performance?

Stage 5 regulations do affect the overall performance of the engine but in a good way. With the inclusion of a DPF, more aggressive fuel injection timing can be used. This improves engine power and torque while meeting the required emissions target.

Other improvements have been made including increased power density, lower noise and better cold starting. Overall, stage 5 regulations have significantly improved machinery engines in performance statistics.

Greenplant are committed to providing high-quality equipment that helps the environment. Stage 5 engines feature in all our new machinery and we will be phasing out older models. Not only do you get lower emissions, but better performance in a whole host of areas.
